Art Roundup: Week of Nov. 6 – 12

The First Friday Art March takes place on Friday, November 6 from 6 – 9pm. This monthly event showcases local art, culture, food and fashion throughout the Starland Arts District. (This month also features a special Art March After Party at The Florence – bring your Art March map with four location signatures and get pizza for $10 or a special cocktail for $6.)

Escape Savannah’s featured artist for November, Tim Kelly, debuts his work at an opening reception from 6 – 9pm during the First Friday Art March on Friday, November 6. The exhibition, A Simple Machine, consists of illustrations which characterize the saga between good and evil. Click here for more information.

Sulfur Studios will host an opening reception for A Stye in the Devil’s Eye, an exhibition of work by Axelle Kieffer and Jordan Fitch Mooney, on Friday, November 6 from 6 – 9pm. The pieces blend collage, oil portraits, and different printmaking techniques to explore iconography, religious symbols and mythology. Click here for more information.

Kat Lanser’s exhibition, I Wish We Could Be Something, opens on Friday, November 6 from 7 – 11pm at The Florence (1 W Victory Dr.) during the First Friday Art March. Menghan Qi’s thesis exhibition, Walking Under A Midnight Sun, opens at Oglethorpe Gallery on Friday, November 6 from 6 – 9pm. Qi’s paintings and handmade objects will be on display through November 10. Click here for more information and to preview the work.

Inktober, an exhibition of ink drawings by Thomas Perkins and Christopher Brown, opens at The Foundery Coffee Pub on Friday, November 6 with an opening reception from 7 – 10pm. The show consists of 62 ink drawings created throughout the month of October 2015. Click here for more information.

Rehnuma (201 E 37th St.) will offer a course teaching the basic principles of fashion design on Saturday, November 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th at 10:30am. Students will learn fundamental draping/pattern making procedures, dart manipulation, draping basic blocks, setting basic sleeve, and more. Click here for more information or to purchase tickets.

Jelinek Creative Spaces will host the Make Savannah Holiday Market on Wednesday, November 11 from 5 – 8pm. Artisans will be selling handcrafted, locally made goods including pottery, handbags, leather goods, candles, children’s accessories, holiday towels, clothing and more for your gift-giving needs. Thalia Scagliola’s thesis exhibition, 3:33, opens at Non-Fiction Gallery on Thursday, November 12 from 6 – 9pm. The exhibit features video work and screen prints which examine the psychology behind compulsive behaviors. Click here for more information.
