Art Roundup: Week of July 24 – 30

Sulfur Studios will hold an opening reception for Raveling the Threads of Wear, a fibers MFA thesis exhibition by Nathalie Di Sciascio on Friday, July 24 from 6 – 9pm. Di Sciascio’s work explores the “fundamentality of humanness” by focusing on the traces bodies leave on cloth with wear and over time. Click here for more information.



The Sentient Bean will screen Las Calles Hablan, a documentary about street art in Barcelona on Friday, July 24 from 8 – 10pm. Las Calles Hablan is the story of Barcelona’s guerilla art subculture and the artistic community’s struggle for freedom of expression against an increasingly restrictive government. Attend a workshop led by Leslie Walsh of Gifted Creative Group titled “Personal Brand Development: Creating Your Personal Brand” on Sunday, July 26 from 2 – 4pm. The workshop is designed to help creatives seeking freelance or full-time employment build their personal brand and establish themselves within a particular industry. Woody Cornwell will host the second in a series of a workshops called Abstract Art – Painting and Design at Sulfur Studios on Wednesday, July 29 from 7 – 9pm. Students will experiment with various approaches in painting and drawing toward the development of their own style and expression. Click here for more information.



QuoLab will host an “Arty Party” for the premiere of Denver-based artist Erick Garcia’s found-object sculpture triptych 9-19-49 on Wednesday, July 29 at 10pm. The sculptures explore the past, present and the future as distorted by personal perception. The evening will include a discussion of the work, hors d’oeuvres and drinks. Oglethorpe Gallery will hold an opening reception for James McInvale’s graduate thesis exhibition, Inkling: The Illustrations of James McInvale on Thursday, July 30 from 5 – 8pm. A variety of conceptual illustrations will be on display through August 2. Click here for more information.
