Attend the opening reception for Ali Murtaza’s Perceptive Objects at 13 Bricks (633 E Broad St.) on Friday, August 21 from 4 – 10pm. The show features three pieces that represent the artist’s attempt to create a new generation of products that will inhabit our lives rather than “overtake” them (i.e. smart watches, tablets, smart phones and computers). The three pieces focus on some of the core features of Perceptive Objects: Sound Paintings, Infinite Heartbeats and Musical Minds. Click here for more information.

Head over to Sulfur Studios for Alex Davidson’s thesis exhibition, Breathing Room, on Friday, August 21 from 6 – 9pm. Davidson will project the visual component of his thesis as an installation exploring the role of lighting in defining three-dimensional spaces. By manipulating lighting, Davidson hopes to manipulate our perceptions of the space around us. Click here for more information.

The Savannah Development and Renewal Authority hosts its inaugural street fair, “Cool Communities in Hot Savannah”, on Saturday, August 22 from 2 – 7pm in Wells Park. The street fair will bring together a huge number of local businesses, non-profits, and arts organizations for a free and public event including music, activities and food for the whole family. Come down to The Sentient Bean on Tuesday, August 25 at 8pm for the Tongue: Open Mouth and Music Show. Sign ups start at 7:30pm and everyone is invited to perform 5 minutes of whatever they’d like: music, spoken word, and poetry are all welcome. Click here for more information.

Mary Villeponteaux, Associate Professor and Chair of the Dept. of Literature and Philosophy at Georgia Southern, will give a lecture titled “Saints, Shrews, and Sassy Boys: Shakespeare’s Women” at the Bull Street Library on Wednesday, August 26 at 4:30pm. The lecture will examine the female characters found in Shakespeare’s plays in the context of English renaissance society and its expectations for women. Click here for more information.

Andaz will unveil “Cambio”, a mural completed for the hotel by local artist Alfredo Martinez at their monthly salon on Thursday, August 27 from 5:30 – 7:30pm. Food and drinks will be available and XuluProphet will be playing live. Click here for more information.
