Caught on the Catwalk: Fashion’s Night Out Savannah 2013
Words and Images by Kayla Goggin
Other cities may have opted out this year, but on Thursday night Savannah’s Broughton Street exploded with life for 2013’s Fashion’s Night Out. The event ran late into the night with its multiple runway shows, dj sets, live musical performances, painting performances, pop-up shops, and exclusive parties. Since 2011, Fashion’s Night Out has been a highlight on the Savannah social calendar, offering both primo people watching opportunities and the chance to see the eclectic, lush fashion landscape Savannah has to offer. Copper Penny, fab’rik, trunk 13, Goodwill, BleuBelle, Lucy Lu’s, Custard, and Red Clover were all among the boutiques whose garments made it down the runway. DJ Will Rock and DJ Boo Doo kept the party going all up and down the street, giving a soundtrack to the dancing, talking, strutting shoppers as they wound their way into pop-up shops, trunk shows and VIP areas. Our only regret at this event was that it was a one-night-only affair.
Two separate stages were set up on the street for the two main shows. The Montgomery Street stage showed clothing from fab’rik (whose pre-show party in their boutique included live music and a pyramid of macarons), Trunk 13, Goodwill, Copper Penny, J. Paige, Go Fish and Lucy Lu’s.
The later show on the Drayton Street stage featured garments from Bleu Belle, J. Parker, Red Clover, Sara Jane Children’s, Half Moon Outfitters, Kathi Rich and Veronica’s Closet.
Pop up shops included Kate Spade NY and James Gunn. Paris Market housed a huge variety of trunk shows and vendors for patrons to enjoy.
Le Snoot intern Cleonique Hilsaca participates in a painting performance between the two stages.
VIP parties were a huge part of the event; South Magazine hosted theirs in a roped off area right in front of the Drayton Street Stage.
