Are you ready for Food Day? Well FED Magazine’s annual event is this Sunday, November 2 from 11am – 6pm in Daffin Park and with a schedule jam-packed full of music, workshops, activities, and (of course) food, we know you might be a little overwhelmed. Here are the top 5 things not to miss at this year’s event:
1. Learn from a Pro
Thinking of going vegetarian? Want to build your own pallet garden or learn to raise bees? One of the most exciting things about Food Day is always its full schedule of workshops from local experts. This year Well FED is hosting over twenty of these mini-classes – and they’re all completely free. If you’ve ever wanted to talk to someone about raising chickens in the middle of Savannah or speak to an expert about composting now is your chance. Click here to see all the workshops.
2. Have the best picnic ever
You’re guaranteed all the fixings for an incredible picnic – all you need to bring is the blanket. Food Day will have a full farmer’s market and over 100 vendors selling handmade pastas, fresh bread, locally grown produce and everything inbetween. If you’re in the mood to indulge, Hunter Cattle will be there serving grassfed burgers (always a crowd favorite). Rest assured that if you decide to grab food from one of the local restaurants serving at the festival, over 75% of the ingredients used in your food will be organic or sourced locally!
3. Wear out the kids
After you’ve had the picnic of the year under one of Daffin’s huge live oaks, check out some of the dozens of free kids activities going on throughout the day. There’ll be puppet shows, face painting, plenty of crafts to make and even workshops geared towards kids. Play areas will have dodgeball, parachutes and inflatables for group play, and don’t miss the bicycle course!
4. Go to a free all-day concert
Food Day will host some of Savannah’s best local bands from open to close. Here’s the schedule:
11am – DJ Jose Ray
12pm – Omingnome
1pm – Ambrose
2pm – Waits & Co.
3pm – Savannah State University’s Wesleyan Gospel Choir
4pm – City Hotel
5pm – The Accomplices
5. Have an adventure
If all of this sounds great but you’re still looking for more excitement then join the Savannah Bicycle Campaign’s group bike ride! The ride will go from downtown to the festival in Daffin Park and all participants will receive a free gift bag. Once you arrive you can take advantage of the Bicycle Campaign’s free bike valet. If biking isn’t your thing then find adventure at one of the free Food Day cooking classes! You’re guaranteed to learn (and taste) something new.
